Bushfire legal help – briefing for lawyers

A briefing for lawyers who have volunteered to provide legal assistance to people who have been affected by the bushfires will be held this afternoon at Victoria Legal Aid.

Topics to be covered include:

  • rosters
  • relief centres
  • insurance for householders
  • professional indemnity insurance
  • coronial process – implications
  • responding to people's emotional needs.

Speakers will be Bevan Warner, Meaghan Keogh and Judith Sharples from VLA; Denis Nelthorpe, Special Projects Lawyer, West Heidelberg CLC; James Leach, LIV; Ruth Wraith, DHS; and Audrey Jamieson, Coroner and Gayle Chirgwin, Principal Registrar, from the State Coroner's Office. Representatives from the Supreme Court of Victoria and the media will also attend.
