New relationships to strengthen family violence legal services

New relationships to strengthen family violence legal services

Wednesday, 26 February 2020

We are pleased to be building our relationships with six additional community legal centres (CLCs) as part of new funding arrangements for CLC assistance and family violence legal services.

The Victorian government has committed $11.57 million over two and a half years to the Community Legal Centre Family Violence and Assistance Fund, which brings together three different funding streams with a focus on family violence.

From January, the Department of Justice and Community Safety (DJCS) also transferred administration of the funding to Victoria Legal Aid (VLA).

This fund has been allocated to a total of 35 CLCs, and it facilitates new relationships between VLA and six centres – Southport Community Legal Centre, Asylum Seeker Resource Centre, Intouch Multicultural Centre Against Family Violence, Mental Health Legal Centre, Law and Advocacy Centre for Women and The First Step Program.

‘We thank these centres and the broader CLC community for their collaboration in ensuring a smooth transition to the new funding arrangements,’ said Amy Schwebel, Associate Director, CLC Funding and Development.

‘We warmly welcome this opportunity to continue to support the CLC sector to provide family violence services to the Victorian community,’ said Amy.
